GALLERY OPENING – TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 | 5PM – 7PM EAST GALLERY, STAUFFER HALL | 925 N. DARTMOUTH AVE. EXHIBITION DATES: SEPTEMBER 28 – OCTOBER 16 Connie Zehr was a beloved artist and professor of art who taught at CGU’s MFA program from 1982 until her retirement in 2009. She served as chair of the art department from 2001-2008. Upon retiring, she moved to Horseheads, NY where she continued to make art at her studio there. Connie passed away in April of 2025, at which time her son generously brought her remaining archive of art to Claremont and donated it to CGU’s art collection. Since then, SAH faculty, staff, and students from the Museum & Archival studies and MFA programs have collaborated to catalog, archive, and care for her vast body of remaining artwork. This upcoming exhibition will incorporate key pieces of Zehr ‘s work which were included in the donation. Connie Zehr received a BFA in sculpture at Ohio State University in 1960. She has created on-site ephemeral installations in museums and galleries nationally and internationally including: The Whitney Museum of American Art (New York City, NY); The Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, IL); Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (Los Angeles, CA); Pasadena Art Museum (Pasadena, CA); Taipei Fine Art Museum (Taipei, Taiwan); Salvatori Ala Galeria (Milan, Italy); Wadsworth Atheneum (Hartford, CT); Newspace Gallery (Los Angeles, CA); Exhibit A Gallery (Corning, NY); State of the Art Gallery (Ithaca, NY); Delaware Contemporary (Wilmington, DE) and numerous university galleries.
