Wind Orchestra presents: "Movements and Dances" and Concert Band presents: "Voices of Nature" Thursday, October 8, 2026 | 7:00 PM | Florence Kopleff Recital Hall The Georgia State University Wind Orchestra and Concert Band share the stage for an evening of two distinct programs. The Wind Orchestra opens with Movements and Dances — a dynamic program spanning a century of wind band writing. The concert features Jonathan Dagenais's high-energy Mouvement Frénétique, Larry Daehn's reflective With Quiet Courage (conducted by Jacob Brown) and David Maslanka's luminous Illumination, conducted by Lawrence Williams. The program culminates in two crowd favorites: Tchaikovsky's thunderous 1812 Overture, arranged by Williams and conducted by Israel LaFleur, and Norman Dello Joio's wit-filled Satiric Dances, conducted by Julianna Pinero. The Concert Band follows with Voices of Nature — a program that flows between serenity and vitality, drawing on the rich imagery of water, landscape and natural wonder. The concert features Shizuka Sato and Naoya Wada's shimmering The Sounds of Spring (2013), conducted by Julianna Pinero, Adolphus Hailstork's soulful New Wade'n Water (2002), Steven Bryant's luminous Bloom (2004) and Pierre LaPlante's beloved American Riversongs (1991). Admission is free and open to the public.
