As a volunteer Winter Chloride Watcher, you’ll learn the basics of chloride monitoring and take part in water testing at a local river or stream. With this data, we will gain a clearer picture of how chlorides affect aquatic life and how Salt Smart winter practices can reduce the amount of chlorides that reach waterways. 2026 Training Sessions: Wednesday, October 14th 6:30 — 8:00pm Downers Grove Village Hall, 850 Curtiss St, Downers Grove, IL 60515 Sponsored by DuPage County Stormwater Management Tuesday, October 20th 6:00 — 8:00pm Lake County Division of Transportation, 600 W Winchester Road, Libertyville, IL 60048 Sponsored by Lake County Stormwater Management Commission, Lake County Health Department, North Branch Chicago River Watershed Workgroup, and Des Plaines River Watershed Workgroup Wednesday, October 28th 6:30 — 8:00pm Virtual (Zoom) Learn more about Winter Chloride Watchers and register for a training session here .
