About this event
We are having a Quilt Festival! This event will take place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Kisco on Friday, October 9th and Saturday, October 10th (10am-4pm), nominal $5 admission fee. Our goal is 80 quilts, only one quilt per member. We would prefer quilts no wider than 40” because the number of larger quilts (maximum size 90” x 90”) we can accommodate is limited. Note: quilts displayed at the Festival may still be displayed and judged at any future NSQG quilt show. Register your quilt – click HERE. Quilt Dropoff is Oct. 3rd, 10am-1pm, at the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 14 Daniel Rd, North Salem, NY. Contact coordinator Nancy Mirman, 914-329-5290, nmirman@optonline.net with any questions. We have a beautiful venue to show off our beautiful quilts! So while we are not having our World of Quilts Show this year, we are very excited to be having a FESTIVAL to celebrate our creations. We will be displaying our quilts in the lovely Parish Hall at the Church. There will be a special guild Raffle Quilt as well as throw quilts and mini-quilts (directions below) for sale. Viewers Choice Awards will be given and member docents will be available to talk about the quilts and various quilting techniques. We are not able to include categories, judging, special displays, library books for sale, food, or vendors. Click HERE for our Flyer As a bonus (and another way to draw people into our Festival), there will be tours of the building which church parishioners will handle. St. Mark’s was designed by a well-known architect, Bertram Goodhue, in the early 1900’s with several Tiffany windows and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Nancy Mirman, Festival Coordinator For those members who would like to donate a mini-quilt (or several) to the Festival to support a fundraiser for the guild, here are the instructions and some sample pictures. Your mini-quilt can be turned in at Comfort Quilts or the September guild meeting or at Festival quilt drop-off. Mini Quilt Directions It’s an 8” by 10” mini-quilt to donate to our upcoming Quilt Festival! Use some of those interesting ‘Bits and Pieces’ you have around – you might have a hard time making just one! — Make a center focus rectangle 4½” x 6½”. Sew an inner border: Cut 2 strips 1” x 6½” and sew onto the long sides of rectangle and press. Cut 2 strips 1” x 5½” and sew onto the short sides of rectangle and press. Sew an outer border: Cut 2 strips 2” x 7½” and sew onto the long sides of rectangle and press. Cut 2 strips 2” x 8½” and sew onto short sides of rectangle and press. Embellish and quilt as desired. Trim to 8” x 10” (add on any seam allowance needed if facing, enveloping, etc). Finish the edges in whatever way makes sense for your quilt. Sew a sleeve or other hanging treatment on the back, your choice.
