Poetry on Wheels: Inter Borough Tour brings the POEMobile and the Sonicycle to the Bronx with Amargue & Palabra: The Lyricism of Bachata Part 2. The program will include poets Scarlet Gomez (the founder of the Bachataeme events), Yaissa Jimenez and Massiel Alonso; bachata scholar Dr. Wilson Burgos-Matos, Poetic Fortune Telling in the POEMobile: Poetry Tarot Cards with Gabriella Belfiglio and Divan-e-Hafiz with Sahar Muradi and Bronx bachata sensation, Judy Santos and her band. The program begins at 6:30 pm with a Community Vinyl Session hosted by the SoniCycle, poetry projections from the POEMobile and a concert by Judy Santos and more! 8:30 pm – Music with Judy Santos Band, Dominican- American singer Judy Santos is best known for her co-lead female vocals on the smash 2002 hit song “Obsesión” by the bachata group Aventura. ARTIST BIOS Massiel Alonso is a poet whose work explore themes of healing and self-discovery, inspiring listeners to find strength in vulnerability and embrace life’s emotional challenges with courage. Her book “Handful of Poems” isn’t just poetry; it’s a journey of reflection. Each poem resonates deeply, touching your heart and revealing the beauty in personal growth and embracing one’s true self. Whether you’re experiencing the highs of love or the lows of heartbreak, “Handful of Poems” offers comfort, insight, and a connection to life’s shared experiences. Gabriella M. Belfiglio is a poet, teacher, mother, activist who lives in Brooklyn, NY. She studied gender studies, literature and writing at Antioch College and received her MFA in Poetry from American University. Her work has been published in many anthologies and journals including The Centrifugal Eye, Folio, Avanti Popolo, Poetic Voices without Borders, The Potomac Review, Lambda Literary Review, and Paterson Literary Review. She is a winner of a W.B. Yeats Poetry Prize. She has also been awarded a Saltonstall Artist Residency. Her debut book of poetry, The Fig Thief, published by Guernica Editions, was released October 1, 2025. Gabriella is part of the trio of Sicilian American poets that make up The Ferlinghetti Girls. Scarlet Gomez (she/they) is a queer Dominican Bronx-based poet, writer, zine-maker, and founder of Bachatéame, Poet! and Poetry House LLC, a queer writing collective providing community care through arts education. Her work focuses on themes of identity, ancestry, new futures, and sapphic desires. She’s a Hedge Brook alum. When she’s not writing poetry, she’s working on her various novels. Yaissa Jimenez, is a Dominican actress, writer, performer and educator. Through her performance and poetic work, Jiménez creates an aesthetic experience in which people can learn about a Dominicanidad that is expansive and that loves, respects, and protects Blackness. Wilfredo José Burgos Matos is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at the University of Texas, Austin. His research spans sound studies, music, affect theory, Caribbean history, and race and space. His dissertation, titled “The Affective Aurality of Dominican Feeling.” combines his various areas of specialty to examine the feeling of amargue and how its aurality shapes racial, class, and gender consciousness and identity in the Dominican Republic and New York City from the XIX century to the present. Stephanie Pacheco is the 2024-2025 National Youth Poet Laureate, and served as the 2023 NYC Youth Poet Laureate and the inaugural New York State Youth Poet Laureate. She was also a member of Urban Word’s 2022 Youth Slam Team. She is a recipient of the 2021 Princeton Prize in Race Relations. Her advocacy and poetry have been highlighted by The New York Times, The Today Show, NPR, The Daily News, CBS, and other publications. She has spoken and performed in several spaces such as The Kennedy Center, Folger Library, The Schomburg Center, The Apollo Theater, The Barclays Center, The New York Public Library, TedXCUNY, and more.
